Speaker(s)

Emily Silverman, Denver Smart City Program Manager; Technology Services, City & County of Denver

As Denver Smart City Program Manager, Emily Silverman is responsible for developing and deploying Denver Smart City. Her focus includes: developing a comprehensive program by building cross-functional teams; seaming connected, innovative IoT technology and partnerships to provide an interactive, efficient and safe environment in the physical world; and improving the everyday experience of living and being in Denver.

Prior to her position with Technology Services, Emily was a city planner in Public Works, focusing on improving access and mobility through studies, projects and programs within the right-of-way, from station area studies to multi-modal bridges and large-scale development. Emily began her work with the built environment as an Art Director with the Boys & Girls Club, focusing on healthy eating and active living as key elements of community building. Emily holds a BA degree in Comparative Arts from Washington University and a Master of Planning and a Master of Urban Design from the University of Colorado Denver.

Michael Finochio, PE, Engineering Manager for TMC; Public Works, City & County of Denver

With a Bachelor's of Science in Engineering from Colorado State University and a Master in Transportation Civil Engineering from University of Colorado Denver, Michael Finochio has over 25 years of experience delivering transportation operations and engineering projects across a range of functional areas including Traffic Management Center operations, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traveler information, traffic signal systems and the Denver Area Fiber Network Ecosystem (DAFNE).

Currently, Michael is the Engineering Manager for Denver’s Traffic Management Center and is responsible for traffic operations. In 17 years with Denver, his institutional knowledge and leaderships has facilitated key local and regional projects, implementing ITS and smart city infrastructure. Michael in-depth knowledge of the Denver TMC’s system is a vital component to the successful deployment of an integrated smart city ecosystem, developing a seamless environment from arterial and freeway operations by creating a live test bed for evaluating dynamic signal control using DSRC data. His ability to integrate traditional traffic engineering systems with connected and autonomous vehicle technologies- needed to transition from an ITS-enabled to smart city-ready ecosystem to support smart solutions- are key to the success of both Denver's TMC and Denver Smart City, which will fundamentally make Denver a safe, healthy city.
