Welcome to the San Francisco Golden Gate Branch of the San Francisco Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)! The Golden Gate Branch has many active members throughout the Bay Area and hosts regular meetings, technical and professional presentations, and networking events, as well as provides opportunities for leadership development and community outreach.
The Branch holds regular monthly dinner meetings, which provides its members an opportunity to network with public and private sector engineers from around the Bay Area. Infrastructure and buildings constructed today will experience significantly different weather patterns over the course of their lifetime due to the impacts of climate change. The WeatherShift tool, developed through a partnership between Arup and Argos Analytics, uses projections from more than 20 global climate models run for the IPCC Fifth Assessment to generate future weather data (TMY weather files and IDF curves) adjusted for changing climate conditions anywhere in the world. The resulting data can be used to stress test infrastructure and building designs to identify potential weakness, and mitigation options can be evaluated based on risk profile, life cycle cost, performance aspirations and budget.
