Designing, licensing, and operating an Eco-Machine alternative wastewater treatment system

Thursday, March 15, 2018 - 06:00 PM - Friday, March 16, 2018 - 12:00 AM

The Omega Center for Sustainable Living (OCSL) is an environmental education center and natural water reclamation facility. Built to meet the highest standards currently available in sustainable architecture, the OCSL is a pioneering project in the Living Building Challenge™ and is the first green building in America to receive both LEED® Platinum and Living Building Challenge™ certification.  Robert (Skip) Backus Chief Executive Officer of the Omega Institute will present an overview of the  design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Omega Eco-Machine which utilizes: a variety of tanks, constructed wetlands, aerated lagoons, sand filters and dispersal field along with  solar power, no chemicals and specifically selected plants to purify effluent to a tertiary level prior to discharge back into the local environment.  The treatment system is “carbon neutral”, creating no net greenhouse gases, and was recently recognized by the New York Water Environment Association, for sustainability.
