Engineering Demonstrations at the Advanced Learning Library
The Wichita Branch of ASCE is partnering with Wichita's Advanced Learning Library to host hands-on engineering demonstrations for local youth on the first Saturday of each month during the school year from 10:30 to 11:30. Past-President Daniel Schrant organized our first session on September 1, 2018, and we are now in our second year of these come-and-go demonstrations. The last one was held on November 2. The Wichita office of WSP used creative stations to teach students about tension, compression, shear and torsion using candy and Legos..
The next hands-on engineering event will be held on Dececmber 7, and presented by CED. If you are interested in volunteering about two hours of your time or know of a demonstration we can include in this series, please contact Daniel Schrant at (316) 660-1778.
We have started this year with record participation at our monthly meetings and look to continue that throughout the upcoming year by continuing to bring interesting and relevant topics. We had over 70 attend the October meeting alone! If you have any suggestions on a topic you would like to see presented, let an officer know.
As we look to continue our community outreach programs, we are always looking for volunteers to give demonstrations to the local youth through our Hands-On Engineering partnership with the local library. If interested, please talk with one of our officers.
Lastly, with the great success of the STEM kits that were presented to local teachers last year, we are looking to continue the STEM grant for this upcoming year. The application period will soon be open for all local schools and teacher to apply. Pass the word along to your children’s schools and teachers. We will notify all members once we are taking applications.
