Mitch Michell Twilight Float - July 12, 2018
On Thursday evening, July 12, a group of 15 ASCE members and guests got to enjoy a kayak trip on the Little Arkanas River. We started at North Woodland Park on 20th St and made our way downstream to the Ralph Wulz Riverside Tennis Center in Riverside Park. The majority of those in the group had never kayaked before, but that wasn't a problem thanks to the efforts of the Arkansas River Coalition. This non-profit organization provided the kayaks, life vests, and guides to help us along the way. We had a great time paddling down the river, and even took the opportunity to look at the bridges spanning the Little Ark River.
ARC arranges floats throughout the year to help support thier mission to protect, restore and improve the entire Arkansas River watershed and enhance the wellbeing of all life it sustains.. According to their website, one of the best ways of getting people to care for a river is for them to experience it and take ownership in it and a major way of experiencing a river is to get out on it. ASCE thanks ARC for thier leadership and expertise in helping us provide our members with an enjoyable and educational evening.
Our Wichita Branch year is coming to an end and it is time to find the next leader of our branch from our membership. If you would like to run for an officer position, please contact any of the current officers to be placed on the May ballot. Serving our professional society has been fun, rewarding, and a great way to meet new people within our industry. When I came to Wichita, I knew very few of the engineers in the Wichita metro, but ASCE made the transition easy. Being a member is great, but as an officer you will get to know a core group of active members extremely well at our monthly meetings and preparing for the many events that ASCE Wichita Branch coordinates.
With that being said, my time serving as President is also coming to end. I've enjoyed every minute serving on the board over the years and I feel that myself, the current officers and the past presidents before me have made the Wichita Branch of ASCE better every year. Over the last few years, we've improved or added activities to our schedule to make this a better organization for everyone, and I look forward to advising next years officers as a past president.
Daniel Schrant, PE
Wichita Branch President
