Job Description
An experienced Mechanical / Industrial Professional Engineer that serves in a design capacity as a technical expert responsible for the preparation of construction drawings, technical specifications, supporting design reports and calculations as well as preparing and updating District standards for a broad range of water resource related projects for the Bureau.
Engineering services and decisions are made based on a diversified knowledge of theories, concepts, and practices related to the Mechanical and Industrial engineering discipline with an emphasis on design of restoration, flood control and water supply infrastructure. In addition, incumbent has solid working knowledge of standards and practices for related engineering disciplines including Electrical, Structural, Civil and Environmental. Incumbent demonstrates extensive technical expertise and experience in design development and preparation of design reports, calculations, design plans and technical specifications in support of construction contract document preparation.
Designs are for new construction and refurbishment of aging infrastructure. The types of project work this position will provide engineering design support to will include, but will not be limited to:
• Mechanical and Industrial design of gates, actuators, valves, pumps, piping, and related features for operable water control structures, Pump Stations and supporting equipment.
• Automation of flood control and water supply infrastructure utilizing latest mechanical and industrial components and equipment, including motorized valves, pumps, gates, compressors, vacuum pumps, cooling systems and lubrication systems.
• Mechanical and Industrial features including AC systems, air supply, air extraction and air quality for new and existing pump stations, workshops, office space, control buildings, and IT shelters.
• Fuel farms, fuel delivery systems, underground fuel tanks and other ancillary features that support the mission of the District.
Incumbent may be tasked with the review of discipline specific designs developed by other engineers and provides technical coaching to less seasoned engineering and CAD staff. Incumbent is responsible for keeping immediate supervisor current on the status of deliverables and assignments.
May assist in developing the District's strategic programs.
Requires strong analytical and creative thinking skills for effective decision-making, must also be good communicator as project work requires collaboration with a variety of professionals, from management to end-user employees. Strong written and oral communications skills are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required; proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred. Experience in supervising a small team of design professionals and engineering during construction experience is preferred. Strong design abilities with health and safety in mind, striving to protect staff and the public is necessary.
Employment Guidelines
Typically has a Bachelor's Degree, (Master's Degree preferred), from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 6+ years of experience that demonstrates measurable career progression and increased responsibilities within the engineering discipline are required. Disciplines for engineering education and experience requirements include Mechanical, Industrial, Process, Ocean or Environmental engineering.
License
Valid State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Reciprocation from another state must be completed within 6 months from date of hire.
Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
This position may be filled as a Staff Engineer
Typically has Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 4+ years’ experience that demonstrates measureable career progression within engineering discipline that can be applied to support the District’s strategic goals and objectives. Discipline for engineering education and experience requirements is Mechanical, Industrial, Process, Ocean or Environmental engineering.
License
Valid State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
Physical Requirements/ Working Environment
Due to the District's response role and in the scope of emergency management, this position may at times be required to provide support before, during, and after major storm events emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other assigned emergency response role.
