JOB DESCRIPTION:Veterans' Preference Applies Performs entry level engineering work in development plan review and the design, construction, inspection, and coordination of a variety of utilities projects. Coordinates construction projects to ensure compliance with sound engineering practices, structural strength and general suitability of proposed structures. The employee receives assignments in specific or general terms from a Principal Engineer and is expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative in developing work methods. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Must have a minimum of Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited university. - Minimum of two (2) years of experience in engineering work in construction management, preferably in water utilities. - Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record. - Requires demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer and office software such as MS Word, MS Excel and electronic mail.Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering, with particular emphasis on water utilities and land development including but not limited to site plans, potable water, and wastewater, reclaimed water and storm water. Knowledge of building codes. Knowledge of civil and structural engineering. Knowledge of computer operations. Ability to read plans (commercial and multi-family residential). Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications and contract documents or regulations. Ability to read and interpret zoning regulations. Skill in blueprint reading. Skill in technical writing. Skill in computer usage (accessing). Skill in customer relations. Ability to manage and prioritize routine, specialized and complex assignments and problems utilizing knowledge acquired through prior education, training, and experience. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment.

A comparable combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
