October 11 Luncheon at SP2
You are invited to join us for our October lunch which will feature a presentation by Ven Prasad (VTA) about the Santa Clara Pedestrian Undercrossing.
This undercrossing provides pedestrians and cyclists with access to the Caltrain/ACE/Capital Corridor platform and El Camino Real from Brokaw Road. With 80 feet in length, this crossing is similar to a tunnel and runs below three Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) tracks. Construction required a halt to rail service and cutting about 200 feet of railway and excavation. The cut-and-cover construction utilized 14 precast concrete box units that were set in place to create the floor, walls, and ceiling of the pedestrian tunnel.
Ven Prasad is the Engineering Group Manager at VTA and a licensed professional engineer with 29 years of experience in the engineering and transportation industry. Ven has managed Highway and Light Rail projects for 16 years for VTA and currently manages two light rail extension projects, the Capitol Expressway extension to Eastridge (2.3 miles), and another Vasona Line extension and upgrades (1.6 miles) with a total cost of $724 million.
