January 2026 ASCE Technical Luncheon
Steve's presentation titled "Nailed It!" will provide an overview of pedestrian trail projects in West Michigan while focusing on the recently completed Pettis Avenue trail in Ada Township. This 4.5 mile trail provides a critical link in the Grand River Greenways Trail network. This section included a variety of retaining wall systems including an 800 foot-long, soil-nailed retaining wall.
Steven Groenenboom, P.E. (Moore+Bruggink Consulting Engineers):
Steve grew up in Grand Rapids and attended Calvin College before transferring to and graduating from U of M (it's been a tough month!) with a Master's Degree in Engineering in 1987. He started out as a structural engineer and had a 1.5-year stint designing post - tensioned and prestressed parking ramps before accepting a position as a municipal engineer at Moore & Bruggink in 1988 where he has spent the last 37 years. He currently works as a Senior Project Manager getting to work on a number of very cool projects in West Michigan. Steve retires in a few short weeks!!! While he enjoys snow skiing and the winter climate, he will soon be embarking on a tour of much warmer climates including Florida and the southern Caribbean, with his lovely wife, Carla (the best thing that ever happened to him), for the remainder of the winter.
