Wednesday, April 17, 2024 - 06:00 PM - Wednesday, April 17, 2024 - 09:00 PM

Join us for a presentation by Art Hirsch, a former environmental engineering consultant with over 30 years of experience, discussing the pressing issue of Microplastics in the Great Lakes. The escalating presence of microplastics in the Great Lakes poses significant threats to human health, aquatic and terrestrial environments, and Michigan's economy. With an alarming estimated consumption rate of 5 grams per week by the US population, microplastics are pervasive in food, water, air, and even beer around the Great Lakes. Hirsch, drawing on his expertise in water quality, stormwater management, and environmental engineering, will shed light on the sources, impacts, legislation, and local mitigation efforts related to microplastics. His presentation aims to inform and inspire action to address this emerging water quality problem in the Great Lakes, offering insights into potential solutions and highlighting the need for strategic involvement from local, state, and federal agencies.
