ASCE August Luncheon: The New East Span SAS Bridge: A Community’s Passion for Innovation & Aesthetics

Thursday, August 8, 2019 - 12:00 PM - Thursday, August 8, 2019 - 05:00 PM

The new self-anchored Bay Bridge is the longest span bridge in its class as a single tower, self-anchored suspension bridge. An iconic bridge design with a modernistic look represents Bay areas’ passion for innovation & aesthetics. It is an example of engineering ingenuity as its design, fabrication, and erection were challenging due to its three-dimensional cable erection with sloping hangers to support the orthotropic steel deck eliminating massive gravity anchors thereby minimizing its footprint on the Bay.
