Matt Monteith has been a geotechnical engineering consultant and ASCE member for nearly 17 years. As a Florida native, he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Florida State University. He later earned a master’s degree in civil (geotechnical) engineering from North Carolina State University. He currently leads the geotechnical engineering practice for Kleinfelder Colorado and practices geotechnical engineering all over the country. His geotechnical specialties include buildings, transportation infrastructure, water resource facilities, retaining walls, landslide stabilization, ground subsidence over abandoned mined lands, ground improvement, and forensic geotechnical engineering. Matt is passionate about the civil engineering profession, especially geotechnical engineering, and educating kids and young adults about the engineering professions. He spends his spare time with his wife, Sara, and two kids – Orin (7) and Isla (4). He also enjoys running, skateboarding, music, working with his hands, and the ocean. When asked about the future of ASCE, he said, “I look forward to serving as secretary for the ASCE Denver Branch and getting to know the local engineering community.”
