"The Great Lakes Way: Connecting Blue Water with Greenways"

Dr. John Hartig, is an award-wining Great Lakes scientist, Fulbright Scholar, author, current board member of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, Visiting Scholar at the University of Windsor's Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research, and the Great Lakes Science-Policy Advisor for the International Association for Great Lakes Research. Dr. Hartig will discuss the Great Lakes Way, a plan to bring Michigan’s greenways closer and more connected to the waterfront. The plan envisions a 160-mile water and land trail system from Port Huron, Michigan to Toledo, Ohio. Discussion will focus on the implementation of the plan, the benefits for people and businesses to be more connected to the waterfront, and clean up and conservation efforts.
