Bridges

This boy was pleased with the performance of his bridge!  Note the truss made of triangles along each edge.

Kids had a choice of activities:  Build a physical bridge using K'nex, or a computer model.

Here, a student volunteer from CSU shows concepts to make a bridge stronger.

Here, a girl tests her bridge with a car as people work on bridges in the background.

Students and parents work together to create bridges. We explored that loading a triangle on one of its points, while using the opposite, flat edge as a base, makes a strong structure.

This bridge is loaded in a unique way:  the load is suspended from the bottom.

Don Silar of ASCE discusses bridges with a girl. Note the newspaper triangles on the table.
