Hello ASCE West TN Branch Members!
We hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day Weekend, as we honored those who have died in our nation's wars. Our ASCE West TN Branch has several exciting announcements.
The ASCE West Tennessee Branch has been awarded the 2021 Outstanding Section and Branch Award for small Sections and Branches. At our ASCE West TN Branch May meeting, our very own ASCE President, Dennis Traux, attended the meeting and presented the award to the branch.
Our Branch has remained active through the brunt of Covid-19 and continues to remain strong through our hybrid events. Since January of 2022, we have been able to meet in-person monthly at EnSafe, while providing a virtual option for attendees. This past May meeting Brian Tenkhoff discussed Memphis International Airport Concourse B Modernization & Consolidated De-icing Facility. Also, at the May meeting, the 2022 - 2023 ASCE West TN Branch Award Winners were announced. Please see below for awardees.
Our Student Chapters competed in the first ever ASCE Mid-South Student Symposium at Arkansas State University from March 31–April 2, 2022. Our very own Christian Brothers University team won the UESI Surveying Competition. We are very proud of our Student Chapters for participating and representing ASCE West TN!
Nicole Arellano, a University of Memphis ASCE Student Chapter member, was recently awarded third place in the 2022 ASCE Daniel W. Mead Student Paper Competition. This competition is named after the 67th president of ASCE, who established and endowed the prize money for the competition in 1939. The competition addresses specific issues in professional ethics and is open to ASCE Student Chapter members around the world. In 2020, ASCE completely rewrote their code of ethics and this year’s paper topic was on the impact those changes would have on the civil engineering profession. Congratulations, Nicole!
