On Wednesday March 19th at 4pm, we'll be heading over to Davenport Field at Disharoon Park in Charlottesville to watch the University of Virginia Cavaliers battle the University of Richmond Spiders. Our friends from the ASCE Richmond Branch have been invited to attend as well so there will be plenty of reasons to not miss this one. From seeing old friends, making new friends, and rooting for ASCE Branch bragging rights, there's something for everyone.
Huge shout out and Thank You to our Blue Ridge Branch Younger Members Chair, Abby Muchnick! She was able to work with the UVA ticketing office to secure discounted ticket prices of just $6 per ticket. This ASCE / Blue Ridge and Richmond Branch event is open to your family as well. We'll be in the right field "Group Seating" area.
On Tuesday February 25th, our monthly technical meeting will be at the VDOT Staunton District Office for a 12pm lunch and learn. Plenty of free parking is available. The VDOT address is: 811 Commerce Drive, Staunton, VA 24401.
This month's technical meeting is being sponsored by and presented by the American Concrete Pipe Association (ACPA). Mr. Tryg Hoff from the ACPA (and ASCE / BRB Board Member) has graciously agreed to provide the lunches for our meeting, but also to share more about the ACPA. His presentation is entitled "Undeniably Sustainable: Proven Resilient.
Abstract: Resilience stands as the bedrock of sustainable infrastructure, ensuring longevity and adaptability amid mounting challenges. In the face of climate change, natural disasters, and manmade disasters, resilient systems can withstand shocks, recover swiftly, and continue functioning efficiently. Integrating resilient designs, materials, and strategies safeguards investments, and while minimizing environmental impact. After all, specifying a resilient product that will remain in use for 100+ years is significantly more sustainable than using one that must be remade and replaced multiple times.
About the ACPA:
The American Concrete Pipe Association is the voice of the concrete pipe and box culvert industry. We serve and work with stakeholders in the areas of research, specifications, technical services, promotion, education, safety, product quality, government relations, and the publication of technical and industry information. Our core precast drainage products include reinforced concrete pipe for sanitary and storm sewer systems and drycast and wetcast concrete boxes for many uses including culverts and small bridges and manholes.
Space is limited for this month's meeting so if you are interested in attending, please RSVP by replying to this email or to me directly at [email protected]. Final meeting logistics and lunch details will be provided to those that RSVP as 2/25 gets closer.
Tryg Hoff is the Director of Government Relations, and the Northeast Region Engineer for the American Concrete Pipe Association (ACPA). Tryg graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University and his professional experience ranges from environmental consulting in Columbus, Ohio, to architectural engineering in beautiful Lake Tahoe, California. He currently lives in Madison, Virginia, near the Blue Ridge mountains with his wife, Brooks, on a small 40‐acre horse farm. Tryg is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio, and an Envision Sustainability Professional. He has been promoting resilient infrastructure with the ACPA since 2012.
